Late rally falls short at McKendree

A late Rockhurst rally fell short in the series finale at McKendree. The Bearcats held off the Hawks for a 16-13 victory Sunday in Lebanon, Illinois.

The Hawks scored 11 runs in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the score at 13-13. McKendree retook the lead by scoring three unearned runs in the eighth.

Hoyt Bennett led the Hawks with two home runs and six RBIs. The sophomore catcher hit a two-run home run in the seventh and a grand slam in the eighth.

Adonis Forte posted four hits and drove in two runs with a single and triple. Ethan Kleinheider tripled home a run in the seventh and Michael Laudando tied the game with an RBI single in the eighth.

Laudando, Kleinheider and Connor Ellefson each had three hits. Patrick Wind and Bennett both had two hits.
