Hawks upset No. 8 Lions; claim share of GLVC regular season title

The Rockhurst men's lacrosse team upset eighth-ranked Lindenwood, 11-10 in overtime, on Saturday at Bourke Field to claim a share of the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title.

Sam Lindahl scored the winning goal 35 seconds into overtime on a 15-yard shot from the right side. Lindahl led the Hawks with five points on three goals and two assists.

The Hawks (8-5, 5-1 GLVC) tied Lindenwood and Indianapolis for first place in the GLVC standings. Indy won the tie-breaker and will host the GLVC Tournament next weekend. Rockhurst is the No. 2 seed and will face third-seeded Lindenwood in the tourney semifinals Friday night.

Rockhurst rallied from an 8-3 deficit in the second period to take a 9-8 lead on a Brooks Hanson goal at the 4:10 mark in the third period. The Lions scored two game-tying goals in the fourth period.

John Myran tallied two goals and one assist. Alec Heflin and Hanson each scored two goals. Hayden Harris finished with 11 saves and five ground balls.

Zach Cegielski collected 10 faceoff wins and three ground balls. Luke Goetz had four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Luke Leonard added two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Rockhurst finished with 38 shots, 20 ground balls and 10 faceoff wins.
