Hawks win opener at Kentucky State, 7-6

Devon Farrell drove home the go-ahead run with a pinch-hit RBI single and Ethan Kleinheider added a two-run double in the eighth inning to lead Rockhurst to a 7-6 victory over Kentucky State on Friday in Frankfurt, Kentucky.

Kleinheider, Connor Ellefson and Adonis Forte each collected two hits to lead the 12-hit attack. Ellefson drove in two runs with an RBI double in the first and a sacrifice fly in the third. Jack Burns added a run-scoring single in the third.

Junior right-hander Jake Canent relieved starter Clayton Medlin in the seventh to get his first win of the season. Thomas Jones threw the final two innings to pick up his fourth save of the season.
