Rockhurst and Maryville opened conference play with a high-scoring slugfest Friday night at RU's Loyola Park. The Saints' Elias Stevens hit a school record three home runs to power Maryville to a 13-11 victory.
Stevens broke a 10-10 tie with a two-run homer to right field in the eighth. The sophomore catcher hit a three-run homer to left center in the first and added a solo shot to left in the second.
The Hawks rallied from a 10-2 deficit in the third to tie the game in the seventh. Rockhurst scored two runs in the third, fifth in the fourth and one in the seventh.
Connor Ellefson and Hoyt Bennett combined for four hits and six RBIs to lead the 15-hit Rockhurst attack. Ellefson doubled home a run in the first and hit a two-run homer in the third. Bennett connected on a three-run homer in the fourth.
Cameron Gardner posted three hits, while Adonis Forte, Malik Stevenson and Michael Laudando added two hits apiece.
