Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Road trip ends with loss to Tritons

The Rockhurst men finished their four-day, three-game road trip with a 93-72 loss at Missouri-St. Louis Monday night in St. Louis.

The Tritons overcame a sluggish start to open the second half by going on a 17-3 run to take a 59-41 lead at the 13:29 mark. UMSL made nine of its 13 three-pointers in the second half while shooting 63.6 percent in the final 20 minutes.

"We got blitzed in the second half," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "It's been a long time since I witnessed a 3-point shooting display like that by an entire team. We had no answer for them inside or outside. They made them contested, not contested, deep, short... they made their mid-range jumpers too. Hats off to them. I'll need to watch the film to fully understand what happened in the second half."

Maxim Romanov led the Hawks with 17 points and three assists. The junior forward scored 12 points in the second half. Rich Byhre posted 15 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Jake Auer scored 14 points and connected on four 3-point field goals.

Rockhurst hit 22 of 45 shots from the field (48.9 percent ). The Hawks made 52.4 percent of its shots in the second half (11 of 21).
