Hawks open road trip with loss at USI

Southern Indiana jumped out to early lead while dominating the boards in collecting a 90-64 victory over Rockhurst Friday night in Evansville, Indiana.

The Eagles went on a 13-0 lead in the first half to take a 27-7 lead and led 45-20 at halftime. USI scored 21 second-chance points while outrebounding the Hawks, 51-27.

"Not much fun tonight. We got killed on the glass and won't win if we get manhandled on the backboards like that. They are athletic and play very hard. We got smacked," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener.

Reserves Connor Renard and Charlie Hoehne led the Hawks with 12 points apeice while combining on 11-of-20 shooting. Renard had a team-high five rebounds. Nick Volz and Jake Auer scored nine and eight points, respectively.

Rockhurst hit 25 of 61 shots from the field (41.0 percent ). The Hawks made 16-of-31 field goals in the second half (51.6 percent).


USI (13-4, 7-3 GLVC) shot 50.0 percent from the field (33 of 66) and made nine-of-26 three-point field goals (34.6 percent).
