Penalties hurt Hawks in road loss at Mount Olive

Mount Olive scored four extra-man opportunity goals in posting an 11-7 victory over Rockhurst Saturday in Mount Olive, N.C.

The 14th-ranked Trojans (3-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Hawks came back to cut Mount Olive's lead to 5-4 at halftime.

Mount Olive scored three straight goals to take an 8-5 lead in the third period. John Myran cut the Trojans' lead to 9-7 with his second goal with 3:05 left in the game before Mount Olive added two more goals in the final two minutes.

Rockhurst outshot the Trojans 49-42, but were whistled for 10 penalties. Alec Heflin led the Hawks with 12 shots. Sam Lindahl, Bryce Horstman and Myran combined for 20 shots.

Brady Noernberg had a team-high three ground balls. Luke Goetz collected two ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Hayden Harris finished with 15 saves and two ground balls. Zach Cegielski won four faceoffs.

The Hawks (2-2) return home to host Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday, March 4.
