Volz leads Hawks to Senior Day win over Truman

Senior forward Nick Volz scored 17 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to lead Rockhurst to a come-from-behind 84-78 victory over Truman State Saturday on Senior Day at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks rallied from a 44-31 halftime deficit to win their first game in 26 days. Rockhurst outscored the Bulldogs 53-34 in the second half. An 11-0 run late in the game gave the Hawks a 71-63 lead at the 2:58 mark.

"I'm so proud of our team today," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "This has been a really tough stretch we've been on and these guys have approached it every day with resilience. It's so nice to see a locker room that the guys are rewarded for their mindset."

Rockhurst hit 30 of 64 shots from the field (46.0 percent ). The Hawks made 18-of-35 field goals in the second half (51.4 percent).

Volz scored his 30 points on 12-of-16 shooting, including hitting his first two 3-point shots of the season. He also had seven rebounds and five assists. Rich Byhre posted 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Jake Auer tallied 12 points and three steals. Maxim Romanov collected eight points and six rebounds. Jihad Thornton added eight points, five assists and two steals.

Truman (19-8, 13-6 GLVC) shot 48.4 percent from the field (31 of 64) and made 11-of-17 free throws (64.7 percent). Cade McKnight led the Bulldogs with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
