Men fall at Truman State in GLVC Tournament

Five players scored in double figures to lead Truman State to an 88-62 victory over Rockhurst in the first round of the GLVC Tournament Monday in Kirksville, Missouri.

The Bulldogs closed the first half on a 22-10 run to take a 37-26 halftime lead. Truman opened the second half on a 24-13 run to take a 61-39 lead with 12:23 left to play.

"They clearly weren't going to let (Nick) Volz play one-on-one as easily in the post," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We didn't shoot well enough to make them pay."

Rockhurst hit 21 of 63 shots from the field (33.3 percent ). The Hawks scored 26 points in the paint and made seven 3-point field goals.

Maxim Romanov led the Hawks with 24 points (on nine-of-14 shooting) and four steals. Nick Volz posted 16 points and five rebounds. Rich Byhre tallied 14 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks, who finished with an 11-20 record.

"This year was tough for all of us. Regardless of our record, we have a group of high character guys that I am proud to be associated with," Diener added.


Truman (20-8) shot 45.8 percent from the field (27-of 59) and made 24-of-35 free throws (68.6 percent). Masen Miller led the Bulldogs with 20 points and seven rebounds.
