Hawks sweep Bemidji State in Omaha

The Rockhurst baseball team broke into the victory column on Saturday against Bemidji State at the Creighton Prep Baseball Field in Omaha, Nebraska. The Hawks started the day with a 1-0 win and posted a 6-4 win in the second game.

Game One: RU 1, Bemidji State 0
Clayton Medlin shut down Bemidji State on four hits over seven innings. The junior right-hander struck out 12 and walked four in his second start of the season. Medlin ended the game with a strikeout with two men on base.

  • Freshman shortstop Austin Murray singled home the winning run in the third inning.
  • Jack Burns reached base twice on walks and stole a base in the fifth inning.

Game Two: RU 6, Bemidji State 4
Rockhurst scored four runs in the first inning on a pair of two-run doubles by Tommy Kraus and Michael Laudando. Malik Stevenson added an RBI double in the fourth and a run-scoring single in the sixth.

  • Freshman Ethan Kulpinski was the winning pitcher. He allowed two runs on one hit over five innings. Senior Thomas Jones got the last four outs to pick up the save.
  • Stevenson, Laudando and Devon Farrell each had two hits.
