Hawks fall short at Springfield, 66-63

The Rockhurst road woes continued Saturday at Illinois Springfield. The Hawks fell short of winning their second road game, falling to the Prairie Stars 66-63.

Springfield scored eight points in the final two minutes on two field goals and four free throws to rally from a 60-58 deficit down the stretch. The Hawks could not get off a shot in the final five seconds. 

"The character our guys have shown as competitors has been admirable," said coach Drew Diener. "This stretch is testing us in many ways. I am optimistic about our last week in the regular season."

Rockhurst hit 23 of 54 shots from the field (42.6 percent ). The Hawks made 15-of-28 field goals in the first half (53.6 percent).

Rich Byhre led the Hawks with 16 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots. Nick Volz posted 14 points and six rebounds. Maxim Romanov scored 10 points. Jake Auer and Jihad Thornton combined for 17 points and six steals.


Springfield (11-15, 6-12 GLVC) shot 42.9 percent from the field (21 of 49). Chris Hamil led the Prairie Stars with 17 points.
