Second-half run powers Indy over Hawks

Indianapolis rallied in the second half to leave town with a 70-63 victory over Rockhurst Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Greyhounds opened the second half on a 15-2 run to grab a 44-37 lead with 13:54 left to play. Indy closed the game on a 17-12 run after the Hawks pulled within two points at 53-51 at the 6:27 mark. 

"I'm proud of our effort on the glass. That is an athletic team. We competed hard. That was our biggest concern and we rose to the occasion," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener, whose Hawks out-rebounded Indy 38-25.
 
Nick Volz led the Hawks with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The senior forward connected on nine-of-14 field goals.

Rich Byhre finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Jihad Thornton posted six points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Rockhurst hit 25 of 57 shots from the field (43.9 percent ). The Hawks made 14-of-28 field goals in the first half (50.0 percent).

Indy (13-8, 7-6 GLVC) shot 42.0 percent from the field (21 of 50). Dee Montgomery led the Greyhounds with 20 points and five assists.
