Byhre tallies 35 to rally Hawks past William Woods

Rich Byhre posted a career-high 35 points and nine rebounds to rally Rockhurst to a 75-71 victory over William Woods Thursday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Byhre scored five of his 21 second-half points to key an 11-0 run to give Rockhurst a 69-62 lead with four minutes on the clock. The junior forward scored 15 of the Hawks' final 26 points in the final 8:43.

William Woods led 33-32 at halftime and grabbed a nine-point lead, 51-42, at the 12:45 mark in the second half. The Owls were outscored 33-20 in the final 12:30.

Timaris Brown collected 10 points and five rebounds. Jake Auer, who canned two 3-pointers in the second half, finished with eight points and three steals. Miles White tallied seven points, 10 rebounds and two steals.

Rockhurst shot 35.8 percent from the field (24-of-67) and 45.8 percent from behind the 3-point line (11-of-24). The Owls made 27-of-63 shots from the field (42.9 percent) and hit seven-of-26 three-pointers (26.9 percent).

Jared Crutcher led William Woods (7-6) with 11 points, nine rebounds and six blocks.
