Strong first half carries Hawks past Indianapolis

A balanced offensive attack and strong defensive effort carried Rockhurst to a 71-61 victory over Indianapolis Saturday on the Greyhounds' home court. It was the Hawks' first win at UIndy since 2009.

The Hawks jumped out to a 45-34 halftime lead behind 63-percent shooting. Jake Auer made four 3-pointers while scoring 16 points in the first half.

Rockhurst held the Greyhounds to 29-percent shooting in the second half. Rich Byhre and Timaris Brown combined for 17 points and 12 rebounds after halftime.

Auer led the Hawks with 18 points and four steals. Brown posted 15 points and 11 rebounds. Byhre collected 14 points and eight rebounds. Davit Kakushadze scored 10 of his 11 points in the first half.

The Hawks shot 45.6 percent from the field (24-of-53) and made eight-of-19 three-pointers.
