Strong start leads Jewell past Rockhurst

Rockhurst could not overcome a strong start by William Jewell in falling to the Cardinals, 79-62, Saturday at the Mabee Center in Liberty, Missouri.

Jewell jumped out to an 8-0 lead and led 39-12 with 4:46 left in the first half. The Hawks closed the first half on a 12-4 run to cut Jewell's lead to 43-24.

Rich Byhre led the Hawks with 11 points and eight rebounds. Nick Arensberg posted 10 points and five rebounds. Davit Kakushadze scored 10 points on five-of-11 shooting.

Rockhurst ended up shooting 40.7 percent from the field (24-of-59) after shooting 36.0 percent in the first half.

Four players combined for 62 points and 24 rebounds for Jewell (6-6, 2-2).
