Late run falls short as Hawks drop GLVC road game

McKendree held Rockhurst to 34.2 percent shooting in posting a 73-62 victory over the Hawks Thursday night in Lebanon, Illinois.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 39-28 halftime lead behind 60-percent shooting. McKendree opened the second half on a 15-4 run to take a 22-point lead at the 14:17 mark.

Rockhurst went on a 25-9 run to cut McKendree's lead to six with 1:43 left. The Bearcats followed with a 10-3 run.

Rich Byhre paced the Hawks with 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Jake Auer tallied 10 points, four rebounds and two steals. Jihad Thornton scored nine points on four-of-eight shooting.

McKendree shot 51.0 percent from the field and outrebounded the Hawks, 40-36.
