Balanced attack carries Hawks to GLVC victory

All five starters scored in double figures to lead Rockhurst to a 93-69 victory over Maryville in the Hawks' conference opener Monday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rich Byhre led the Hawks with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Freshman Timaris Brown tallied 15 points, five rebounds and three steals. Jihad Thornton scored 15 points on six-of-eight shooting. Jake Auer and Nick Arensberg combined for 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Byhre posted eight points and 10 rebounds to power the Hawks to a 47-27 halftime lead. Rockhurst connected on nine 3-pointers in the first half.

The Saints made a late run to pull within 10 points, 74-64, with 5:52 left to play. The Hawks ended the game on a 19-5 run.

Rockhurst shot 55.6 percent from the field (35-of-63) and 50.0 percent from the 3-point line (13-of-26).
