Hawks fall by three at William Jewell

William Jewell overcame a nine-point deficit in the second half to edge Rockhurst, 68-65, Tuesday night in Liberty, Missouri.

Rockhurst opened the second half on an 8-4 run to take a 44-35 lead with 16:30 left. Jewell proceeded to go on a 17-4 run to go in front 52-48 at the 11:07 mark.

The Hawks regained the lead at 61-59 on a layup by Nick Volz with 3:38 left. Jewell closed the game on a 9-4 run, capped by a short jumper by Kobe McKinley with 15 seconds left. RU's Jake Auer missed a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Volz led the Hawks with 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. The senior forward connected on nine-of-11 field goals.

Auer finished with 16 points on six-of-11 shooting and three steals. Rich Byhre collected 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Jewell (6-5, 2-1 GLVC) shot 44.1 percent from the field (26 of 59). McKinley led the Cardinals with 16 points.
