Rockhurst drops home opener to Drury, 3-1

The Rockhurst men's soccer team kicked off the conference race with a 3-1 loss to Drury Friday night at Bourke Field. The Panthers ended a 10-year winless streak against the Hawks and won for the first time at Rockhurst since 2009.

Drury scored two goals early in the second half to take a 2-0 lead. The Panthers added their third goal on a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

Elluan Martins Gomes cut Drury's lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 69th minute. Martins Gomes headed in a shot from six yards out inside the left post off a free kick from David Ray-Campoy.

Drury, 2-3, outshot the Hawks 19-11. Gianmarco Donnini and Alessandro Macchioni led the Hawks with two shots apiece. Fabio D'Errico collected five saves.

The Hawks (1-4, 0-1 GLVC) next play at Southwest Baptist on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
