Fort Hays State holds off Hawks for a 2-1 win

Fort Hays State stopped a penalty kick in the 90th minute to hold on for a 2-1 victory over Rockhurst Sunday at Bourke Field.

FHSU goalkeeper Kieran Brown made a diving save to his right on a penalty kick by RU's Jordan Andrews with 30 second left in regulation.

Blake Arndt scored both of the Tigers' goals, including the game winner in the 69th minute when he flicked in a free kick by Antonio De La Torre. Arndt gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead when he converted on a penalty kick in the fourth minute.

RU's Alessandro Macchioni tied the score in the 62nd minute when he drilled a shot into the lower left of the goal from 26 yards out.

The Hawks finished with 13 shots. Andrews led the Hawks with four shots and two shots on goal. Macchioni and Elluan Martins Gomes each posted two shots. Fabio D'Errico collected four saves.

Rockhurst (1-3) will open conference play Friday night at home against Drury.
