Ninth-inning run give Hawks 1-0 win at Jewell

CJ July and Luke Lancaster combined on a two-hit shutout to carry Rockhurst to a 1-0 victory over William Jewell Friday in Liberty, Missouri.

The Hawks scored the winning run in the top of the ninth with the aid of a Cardinal error. Tyler Stamer hit a one-out double to left field and scored via an error on the following batter.

Connor Ellefson hit a ground ball to the Jewell shortstop, who attempted to throw out Stamer at third base. The throw went into the Jewell dugout and Stamer was awarded home plate.

Ethan Kleinheider collected three of the Hawks' six hits. Rockhurst stranded five runners in scoring position.

July retired 20 straight hitters after giving up two hits in the first inning. He struck out five and walked one over seven innings. Lancaster pitched the final two innings without allowing a hit to earn his fifth win of the season.

The Hawks (20-17, 17-16 GLVC) play two games at Jewell on Saturday.
