Hawks drop tourney opener to Indianapolis

Indianapolis scored six runs in the final two innings to rally for a 6-4 victory over Rockhurst in a first-round game in the GLVC Baseball Championship Tournament Thursday in St. Charles, Missouri.

The Greyhounds (22-19) scored three runs in the ninth inning, capped by a walk-off two-run home run by Caleb Vaughn off reliever Luke Lancaster.

Rockhurst (23-18) will now face Lewis in an elimination game at 12:30 p.m. on Friday (May 14).

Tyler Stamer hit an RBI double and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead. Tommy Kraus drove in the first run of the day with an RBI double in the second and Connor Ellefson singled home the second run in the fourth.

Jack Eisenbarger took a three-hit shutout into the bottom of the eighth. Indianapolis scored three runs on three hits in the eighth. A triple and double brought home the first two runs for the Greyhounds.

Stamer, Ellefson and Kraus each had two hits in the nine-hit attack. Eisenbarger (9-2) allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out seven over 8.1 innings.
