Rockhurst drops series finale in Bolivar

Southwest Baptist held off a Rockhurst rally to edge the Hawks, 8-7, in the series finale Sunday in Bolivar, Missouri.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 7-1 lead after scoring five runs in the third inning. Rockhurst scored four runs over the next three innings to cut SBU's lead to 7-5.

Trailing 8-5 after seven innings, the Hawks scored on a wild pitch in the eighth and Tyler Stamer hit a solo home run to right-center with one out in the ninth.

Stamer led the 15-hit attack with four hits and three RBIs. He homered to right in the first and singled home a run in the fourth.

Nic Mertes collected three hits, including an RBI single in the sixth. Devon Farrell, Garrett McNally and Cameron Gardner each finished with two hits. McNally had an RBI double in the sixth.

Joe Rost, Jacob Thigpen and Dylan Lankford held SBU to three runs on eight hits over the final 5.2 innings.

Rockhurst (9-7, 6-6 GLVC) returns home to host Drury on Thursday night.
