Offense leads Hawks to pair of wins at SBU

Led by a pair of six-run innings, Rockhurst scored 17 runs in sweeping a doubleheader from Southwest Baptist Saturday in Bolivar, Missouri.

The Hawks used a six-run fifth inning to win the first game, 9-2. Nathan Mark and Connor Ellefson combined for four hits and six RBIs.

Mark hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and added a two-run single in the fifth. Ellefson had an RBI single in the first and a two-run single in the fifth.

Garrett McNally and Tommy Kraus posted RBI doubles and Nic Mertes added two hits to the nine-hit attack.

Jack Eisenbarger (3-1) allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven over five innings.

Rockhurst scored six runs in the first inning on the way to an 8-5 victory in the second game. The Hawks hit three home runs in the opening frame.

Ty Herrenbruck opened the scoring with a two-run homer to left. Ellefson hit a three-run homer to left and Tyler Stamer added a solo blast to right field in the first inning.

Stamer singled home two more runs in the third. Mark led the 10-hit attack with three hits.

Thomas Jones (1-1) held SBU scoreless on three hits over the first five innings. Luke Lancaster got the final six outs to get his second save of the season.

Rockhurst (9-6, 6-5 GLVC) wraps up the series at SBU on Sunday.
