Hawks drop doubleheader at Maryville

Maryville combined for 17 runs in sweeping Rockhurst, 10-2 and 7-5, in a conference doubleheader Saturday in St. Louis.

The Saints won the first game, 10-2, while hitting three home runs among their 13 base hits. The Hawks scored single runs in the fourth and eighth innings.

Devon Farrell had two of the Hawks' four hits. Thomas Jones (0-1) allowed two unearned runs on one hit in one inning.

In the second game, Maryville scored five runs in the first two innings and held off Rockhurst for a 7-5 win.

Farrell went three-for-five with an RBI single in the sixth. Nathan Mark posted two hits and drove in two runs with a first-inning single. Tommy Kraus and Hoyt Bennett added two hits to the 11-hit attack.

Clayton Medlin (0-1) allowed five runs on five hits over two innings. Michael Hellman and Luke Lancaster held the Saints to two runs on five hits over six innings.

Rockhurst (6-5, 3-4 GLVC) close out the four-game series at Maryville on Sunday.
