Rockhurst captures conference opener

The Rockhurst baseball team posted an 8-1 victory over McKendree in a Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Thursday night at RU's Loyola Park.

Jack Eisenbarger (1-1) held the Bearcats to one run on six hits over seven innings. He struck out the side in the sixth and finished with eight strikeouts.

Garrett McNally and Tyler Stamer combined for four hits and three RBIs. Stamer had an RBI triple in the third and McNally singled home two runs in the fifth.

Tommy Kraus put the Hawks in front 4-0 with a two-run home run to right field in the fourth.

McKendree rebounded to edge the Hawks, 5-4, in the second game. The Bearcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and held off a Rockhurst rally in the seventh.

McNally led the Hawks with an RBI single in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the sixth. Joe Specht cut McKendree's lead to one run with an RBI double in the seventh.

Michael Hellman (1-1) allowed four runs on five hits over 1.1 innings. Thomas Jones and Luke Lancaster held McKendree to one run on four hits over the final 5.2 innings.
