Hawks open season with 3-1 victory over Drury

Rockhurst opened the 2021 spring season with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Drury (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24) Friday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Freshman Kenize Hines led the 10th-ranked Hawks with 14 kills and nine digs in her collegiate debut.
 
It was also the Rockhurst debut for Trent Jones, who succeeds Tracy Rietzke as head coach of the Hawks. Jones played 14 players in his first game on the Rockhurst bench.
 
Senior middle hitter Morgan Conner posted 12 kills and five blocks. Audrey Arand contributed 10 kills and three blocks. Justice Wingate added seven kills and four blocks.

Jadyn Makovicka tallied a team-high 17 digs. Dani Prusha and Gabbie Inman combined for 45 assists.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, Drury 23
The Hawks rallied from a 14-8 deficit to grab the early lead. Rockhurst ended the set on a 5-1 run.

Set Two: Rockhurst 25, Drury 20
Rockhurst used a 6-1 run to pull away for a five-point win. The Hawks hit. 265 for the second straight set.

Set Three: Drury 25, Rockhurst 23
The Panthers scored the last three points to avoid a 3-0 match loss. A 10-4 run gave Drury a 15-14 lead.

Set Four: Rockhurst 26, Drury 24
Kenzie Hines and Audrey Arand combined for nine kills, including the last two kills of the match to hold off the Panthers.

Player of the Match
Morgan Conner. The senior middle hitter led the Hawks with five blocks and a .450 hitting percentage. She collected five of her 12 kills in the third set.
