Eagles hold off Hawks down the stretch

Rockhurst was held scoreless over the final two minutes in falling to Southern Indiana, 67-57, Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Nick Volz converted on a three-point play to cut the Eagles' lead to 60-57 with 2:17 left. The Hawks missed their final six shots while Southern Indiana made seven-of-10 free throws in the final 1:38.
 
"Again, we guard with great passion on defense," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We played poorly offensively. It makes it tough to overcome to get the win."

Rockhurst shot 26.7 percent from the field (16 of 60) and made 18-of-26 free throws (69.2 percent).

Thomas Faber and Volz each scored 10 points to lead the Hawks. Lasse Gummerus scored nine points on three 3-pointers. Quinton Curry posted a team-high seven rebounds.

Josh Price led Southern Indiana, 9-3, with 20 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. The Eagles shot 38.2 percent from the field (21-of-55) and 61.8 percent at the foul line (21 of 34).

Rockhurst, 8-8, remains in fifth place in the GLVC Points Rating System. The Hawks host Drury on Tuesday.
