Late three-pointers lift McKendree over Hawks

McKendree connected on two clutch three-pointers in the final four minutes to pull out a 69-65 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Hawks, 8-7, who remain in fifth place in the GLVC Points Rating System.

Rockhurst went on a 16-4 run to tie the score at 57-all with 5:03 left to play. Thomas Faber and Jake Buchanan combined for 12 points in the run.

McKendree closed the game on a 12-8 run. Oliver Stephen hit a 3-pointer to give the Bearcats a 61-57 lead at the 3:45 mark. Brendon Gooch increased McKendree's lead to 67-62 lead with a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left.

Faber led the Hawks with 18 points on five-of-eight shooting. Curtis Lewis scored with 16 points on five-of-10 shooting. Nick Volz posted nine points and 13 rebounds. Buchanan tallied seven points. Quinton Curry added six points and seven rebounds.

The Hawks shot 37.7 percent from the field (20 of 53) and made nine three-pointers.

Stephen led McKendree, 5-5, with 21 points and five assists. The Bearcats shot 43.4 percent from the field (23-of-53) and made 11 three-pointers.

The Hawks host Southern Indiana on Saturday.
