Rockhurst wins season opener at Benedictine

Marianna Anderson scored five goals to lead Rockhurst to a season-opening 16-9 victory over the Benedictine Ravens Tuesday night in Atchison, Kansas.

Anderson notched three goals in the first 17 minutes to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead. She added her second free position goal near the end of the first half to give Rockhurst a 9-3 halftime lead.

Benedictine pulled within five midway through the second half at 12-7. The Hawks scored the next four goals with Logan Derosia and Addison Bradley each scoring two goals.

Derosia and Helen Krause finished with three goals apiece. Danielle Mabry posted four points on two goals and two assists. Bradley tallied two goals and Emelia Boillat added two assists.

Sydney Shindler played all 60 minutes in goal, posting 12 saves and 10 ground balls.

The Hawks (1-0) host Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday afternoon.
