Seniors guide Hawks to 68-62 victory

Four seniors combined for 45 points to lead Rockhurst to a 68-62 victory over Quincy Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Chris Hamil led the senior quartet with 18 points and became the latest Hawk to score 1,000-plus career points, joining teammates Curtis Lewis and Quinton Curry.

"It was great way for our seniors to go out," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We came out of the gate with great energy on both ends of the floor and had some outstanding passes that led to made threes. Our guys responded when they made a run and cut the game to single digits."

Hamil's three-pointer at the 18:32 mark in the first half put him over 1,000 career points. He finished the first half with 13 points.

Rockhurst made seven 3-pointers in the first half to take a 36-20 halftime lead. Quincy opened the second half on a 15-4 run to pull within five points, 40-35, with 16:05 left.

Lewis and Hamil canned three-point shots to give the Hawks a 13-point lead at 48-35. Rockhurst maintained its double-digit lead until the final minute of the game.

Curry posted 12 points, six rebounds and two steals. Thomas Faber collected 12 points and six rebounds. Senior Lasse Gummerus tallied nine points and five rebounds. Lewis added six points, six rebounds and three assists.

Paul Zilinskas led Quincy, 6-15, with 22 points and seven rebounds.

Rockhurst is in ninth place in the GLVC Points Rating System with a 9-11 record. The Hawks play at Truman State on Thursday.
