Hawks fall by one point at Indianapolis

Indianapolis survived two Rockhurst shots from close range in the final seconds to edge the Hawks, 61-60, Thursday night in Indianapolis.

Quinton Curry missed a contested layup with just under two seconds left. Curtis Lewis rebounded Curry's miss and his game-winning layup was blocked by Indy's Kendrick Tchoua at the buzzer.

"The heart my guys are playing with is special," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "They have incredible toughness. It pains me so much that they have not been rewarded for their efforts on the defensive end."

Tchoua broke a 60-all tie with a free throw with 14 seconds left. He missed his second free throw, giving the Hawks a shot at winning the game in the final seconds.

Lewis, who led the Hawks with 14 points, had tied the score with two free throws with 40 seconds left.

Curry posted 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. The senior center tied the score at 58-all with a layup with 1:27 left.

Chris Hamil and Jake Buchanan finished with 10 and nine points, respectively. Charlton Offermans posted a career-high 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Tchoua paced Indy, 7-9, with 17 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots. The Greyhounds shot 40.9 percent from the field (18-of-44) and 76.9 percent at the foul line (20 of 26).

The loss drops Rockhurst to sixth place in the GLVC Points Rating System with an 8-10 record. The Hawks play at Lewis on Saturday.

"We know no one in this league is feeling sorry for us. We have got to bounce back on Saturday," added Diener.
