Byhre leads Hawks to 78-64 win over York

Rich Byhre scored a career-high 26 points to lead Rockhurst to a 78-64 victory over York College Tuesday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Byhre helped the Hawks close the game on a 17-4 run over the final seven minutes. The sophomore forward made two jump shots and a layup to give Rockhurst a 72-64 lead with 2:44 left in the second half.

"York continued to battle back against us and put that game in a very tight situation in the second half. I'm proud of the way our guys were able to make some big plays with their backs against the wall," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener.
 
The Panthers went on a 22-6 run in the second half to tie the game at 56-all at the 9:20 mark. Rockhurst jumped out to a 16-point lead (50-34) by opening the second half on a 15-4 run.

"It never feels good to lose a lead and to be able to make big plays and make big shots is a great feeling," Diener added.
 
Byhre connected on 11-of-18 field goals. He also posted seven rebounds and three steals. Jake Auer scored 18 points, highlighted by four 3-pointers.

Nick Volz collected 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Nick Arensberg scored a career-high 13 points on five-of-11 shooting. Mikal Gjerde added seven rebounds.

York shot 40.0 percent from the field (24 of 60). Keyaun Hoskin led the Panthers with 16 points.
