Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late rally falls short at home for Hawks

Missouri Western held off a late Rockhurst rally to post a 69-59 victory over the Hawks Tuesday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rockhurst rallied from a 16-point deficit to pull within four points, 61-57, with 1:36 left to play. Missouri Western made six free throws in the final 37 seconds to secure the win.

"We struggle to score consistently. Fifteen turnovers is hard to overcome combined with our poor shooting," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We are playing a lot of guys to find a spark. Things will get better; I am optimistic."

Rich Byhre led the Hawks with 17 points and nine rebounds. Nick Volz posted 17 points and four rebounds. Jake Auer added 13 points. Byhre and Auer each connected on three 3-point field goals.

Rockhurst shot 41.8 percent from the field (23 of 55) and 30.8 percent from behind the 3-point line (eight of 26).

Missouri Western hit 24-of-57 shots for 42.1 percent shooting. Reese Glover led the Griffons (3-4) with 21 points. He scored 18 points in the second half on six 3-point field goals.
