Rockhurst drops home opener to Panthers

Rockhurst could not survive a 23-point performance by Chris Rollins in falling to Davenport, 77-64, in the Hawks' home opener in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge Friday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rollins made seven-of-11 shots from the field and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the foul line. The Panthers shot 51.9 percent on field goals (28 of 54) and connected on 50 percent of their 3-pointers (10 of 20).

Jake Auer led the Hawks with 17 points on seven-of-14 shooting. Aidan Clarey scored 11 points and matched Auer with three 3-pointers. Mikal Gjerde finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Nick Volz was held to five points and six rebounds.

The Panthers held scoreless Rockhurst for over six minutes late in the second half to take a 67-52 lead with five minutes left. The Hawks never got closer than 12 points after Davenport's 8-0 run.

Rockhurst ended up shooting 42.4 percent from the field (25 of 59) and 75 percent from the foul line (six of eight).
