Hawks announce McDonald as new men’s and women’s tennis coach

Jamie McDonald was a three-time All-Conference honoree at Denison University.
Jamie McDonald has been hired as the new head coach for the Rockhurst men's and women's tennis programs, announced RU Director of Athletics Gary Burns on Friday, Jan. 22.

"I think we have hired an excellent leader for our men's and women's tennis programs," Burns said. "It was important during the hiring process to hire a coach with a great desire to win, while fully understanding the need for the balance of academic life at Rockhurst. Coach McDonald reflects these values in his career and his own college career."

McDonald graduated from Denison (Ohio) University with a double major in psychology and political science in 2018. He was a three-time All-Conference honoree and team captain in his senior year. He also was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete Team four years in a row.

A Kansas City native, McDonald was a team captain and played on three Kansas state championship tennis teams at Shawnee Mission East High School.

McDonald previously served as a volunteer assistant coach at Denison University and head coach at Pembroke Hill School in Kansas City, Missouri. In addition, he is vice president of brand marketing for Cracked Racquets, a company that develops and implements strategies to increase brand awareness and foster key relationships in the tennis industry.
