Lewis leads Hawks to 70-59 win over William Jewell

Curtis Lewis led four players in double-figure scoring as Rockhurst collected a 70-59 victory over William Jewell Tuesday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Lewis scored 21 points on nine-of-17 shooting. The senior guard made two consecutive field goals, including a 3-pointer to give the Hawks a 65-55 lead with 4:53 left. Lewis also finished with six rebounds and four assists.

The Hawks, 5-6, held Jewell to 25.0 percent three-point shooting, while scoring 20 points on 17 turnovers.

"Our defense was consistently great tonight," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We had some great deflections and ball pressure that took them out of their offense and sped them up. Offensively, we were able to grind out possessions and get baskets and make big shots."

Nick Volz finished with 16 points, five rebounds and two steals. Chris Hamil scored 13 points on five-of-eight shooting. Rich Byhre added 11 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Hawks shot 45.6 percent from the field (26 of 57). Rockhurst outscored Jewell, 34-16, in the paint.

Eysan Wiley led Jewell, 1-8, with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Cardinals shot 40.4 percent from the field (19 of 47).

Rockhurst will host Maryville on Saturday afternoon.
