Hawks capture conference opener over Miners

Strong pitching and timely hitting led Rockhurst to a 4-2 victory over Missouri S&T in the first game of a conference opening doubleheader Saturday at RU's Bourke Field.

Jack Eisenbarger (2-0) held the Miners to two runs on four hits with six strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Thomas Jones shut down S&T on two hits with three strikeouts over the final three innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Joe Specht hit his first career home run—a two-run shot to right field—in the fourth inning to tie the score at 2-2. Nathan Mark doubled home the go-ahead run in the fifth, scoring Tyler Stamer who led off the inning with a double.

Connor Ellefson, who led the Hawks with two hits, singled home an insurance run in the sixth.

The Miners came back to win the second game, 23-4, in seven innings. The Hawks scored two runs in third and sixth innings.
