Hawks fall to Ravens in overtime, 12-11

The Rockhurst Hawks dropped their season opener to Benedictine, 12-11, on a sudden death goal in overtime Saturday at Bourke Field.

The Hawks led 6-3 at halftime and would lead by as many as four at the 25-minute mark of the second half, but the Ravens scored five unanswered goals to take a 9-8 lead. Trailing 11-10 late, Logan Derosia scored an equalizer at the 1:00 mark to send the game into overtime.

Derosia scored a team-high four goals on the day. Helen Krause added three goals, while Marianna Anderson found the back of the net twice. Danielle Mabry scored once and added three assists. Olivia Collier rounded out the Hawks' scoring with one goal. Emily Duff tallied 13 saves in net for Rockhurst.

The Hawks (0-1) will look to bounce back next Saturday at Concordia-St. Paul.
