Hawks win opening game in Central Florida

Rockhurst opened play in the 2020 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a 9-2 victory over Minnesota Crookston Thursday in Winter Haven, Florida.

The Hawks scored seven runs on three hits in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie. Nathan Mark drove in two runs with a single. Tommy Kraus followed with a two-run double to give Rockhurst a 6-2 lead.

Rockhurst added three more runs with the help of a wild pitch, hit batsman and walk.

Mark led the Hawks with two hits and two RBIs. Mark's RBI double in the sixth put the Hawks in front 2-0. Senior catcher Nic Mertes finished with a pair of doubles.

Senior left-hander Jack Eisenbarger (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out 11 over 7.0 innings. Thomas Jones pitched the final two innings.

The Hawks (3-4) will face Cedarville on Friday morning.
