Late surge leads Lindenwood past Hawks

Lindenwood connected on its last six shots from the field to pull away for an 86-77 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night in St. Charles, Missouri.
 
The Lions (10-15, 4-13 GLVC) outscored Rockhurst 18-8 over the final 4:10. The loss drops the Hawks to 15-10 overall and 11-6 in the GVLC.
 
"They had seven offensive rebounds in the first six minutes of the game. The extra possessions have killed us," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "It was a poor game defensively for us. We were not crisp mentally and they made us pay."
 
Rockhurst jumped out to a 35-27 lead in the first half and took a 44-42 lead into halftime.
 
Lindenwood scored 44 points on 60.7 percent shooting while holding the Hawks to 33 points on 43.8 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes.

Quinton Curry led the Hawks with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Curry connected on eight-of-12 shots from the field.
 
Curtis Lewis finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Nick Volz tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds. Lasse Gummerus scored nine points on three 3-point field goals.
 
Rockhurst shot 50.0 percent from the field and 72.7 percent from the foul line. The Hawks fell into a tie for seventh in the GLVC Point Rating System with three games left in the regular season.
