Hawks grind out overtime win at Quincy

A clutch three-pointer by freshman Thomas Faber with 46 seconds left in overtime carried Rockhurst to a 70-68 victory over Quincy Saturday in Quincy, Illinois.

Faber's 3-pointer gave the Hawks a 67-66 lead in overtime. A free throw by Faber put the Hawks up two with eight seconds left. Quincy's Ryan Briscoe missed a 3-pointer with one second left.

"We faced a lot of adversity in that game and our strong character showed through," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We had stretches of great defense and then times where they hurt us on ball screens.
 
"We are getting used to playing in grinder games. I am proud of our guys ability to stay together and make plays late."
 
Rockhurst took a 12-point lead in the second half at 46-34 at the 11:39 mark. Quincy went on a 14-4 run to cut RU's lead to 50-48 and eventually took a 60-58 lead with 1:37 left. Rockhurst tied the score at 60-all on free throws by Nick Volz and Quinton Curry.

Curry led the Hawks with 17 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Faber connected on five-of-10 three-pointers and finished with a career-high 17 points.
 
Volz posted 15 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Hamil scored 11 points. Curtis Lewis fouled out with seven points and four rebounds.
 
Rockhurst (13-7, 9-3 GLVC) shot 38.6 percent from the field, including hitting 10-of-23 three-point shots.
 
The Hawks return home to host 22nd-ranked Indianapolis on Thursday.
