Rockhurst ties Rogers State in home opener

The Rockhurst men's soccer team led twice in the second half before settling for a 2-2 tie against Rogers State in the Hawks' home opener Sunday at Bourke Field.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead when freshman midfielder Adam Burnett scored on a free kick from 35 yards out in the 62nd minute. Rogers State scored 10 minutes later on a 17-yards shot to even the score at 1-1.

Freshman forward Luke Rafanan gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead when he beat the keeper from eight yards out with a shot inside the left post in the 84th minute. The Hillcats came back two minutes later to connect on a game-tying rebound shot off the post.

Rockhurst posted 19 shots, including four in overtime. Burnett, Rafanan and Sean Michel led the Hawks with three shots apiece. Peter Baker made eight saves in goal for the Hawks.

The Hawks (0-1-1) host William Jewell in their conference opener next Sunday afternoon.
