Overtime goal gives Hawks their first win of the season

The Rockhurst men's soccer team posted their first win of the season Sunday at Bourke Field, blanking William Jewell 1-0 in overtime on a goal by freshman Jackson Wood.

Wood connected on the game-winning header shot from eight yards out with 54 seconds left in the first overtime period. Freshmen Connor Blentlinger and Brenden Dolan assisted on Wood's goal.

Rockhurst posted 23 shots, including four in overtime. Jewell finished with five shots. The Cardinals came close to winning the game with a shot that rolled off the crossbar with 4:16 left in the second half.

Wood led the Hawks with five shots. Blentlinger made four shots. Federico Verlicchi and Trevor Cissell each had three shots. Nick Randazzo shut out Jewell while making two saves in goal for the Hawks.

The Hawks (1-1-1) host Truman State on Friday and Quincy on Sunday next weekend.
