Set Three: Rockhurst 25, Cal State L.A. 20
Trailing 5-1, the Hawks exploded for a 13-4 run to regain momentum and take a 14-9 lead. The Golden Eagles would pull back within two on four separate occasions -- 14-12, 16-14, 18-16 and 20-18 -- but the Hawks answered the bell each time, and would not be denied as a Reichert service ace sealed the five-point win.
Set Four: Rockhurst 25, Cal State L.A. 22
The Golden Eagles started fast as they did in every set, and led late at 21-17. However, Rockhurst flipped the switch again, closing out the match on an 8-1 run, including two clutch kills from
Audrey Arand.
"[Our] serve and receive improved as the match went on," Coach Rietzke said. "We had big plays at crucial times, and some big defensive plays."
The 2-0 start should be a nice confidence boost for the Hawks as they prepare to face two more ranked opponents on Saturday -- host school, No. 10 Tarleton State, (11:30 a.m.) and No. 6 Minnesota Duluth (7 p.m.)
