The 13th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks swept McKendree in three sets in their home opener Friday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Karli Reichert led the Hawks in kills (12) and tied for the team lead in digs (9). Justice Wingate was active in the middle for Rockhurst, tallying six blocks. Set One: Rockhurst 25, McKendree 22
The opening set was tight the whole way. The Bearcats fought hard, taking one-point leads 16-15 and 20-19, but Rockhurst would win six of the final eight points in the set to take a 1-0 lead.

Set Two: Rockhurst 25, McKendree 18
The Hawks had a little more breathing room in the second set, opening up an early lead. McKendree would pull within two at 10-8, but Rockhurst responded with five straight points to extend the lead to 15-8. That seven-point margin would hold, as the Hawks took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Set Three: Rockhurst 25, McKendree 16
The Hawks carried that momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Leading 10-6, the Hawks rattled off eight straight points, extending the lead to 12 in what proved to be the knockout punch.

"We got hot blocking in that third set, got out to a good lead, and were able to finish them off," said assistant coach Brian Tate.

The Hawks are back in action at Mason-Halpin Saturday for another GLVC contest, taking on Southern Indiana at 3:00 p.m.
