No. 13 Hawks meet McKendree in home opener

After spending the first three weeks of the season on the road, the Rockhurst volleyball team will finally play their first home match on Friday night (7:00) at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rockhurst meets the McKendree Bearcats in the conference opener for both schools. The Hawks won their last meeting, 3-0, in Kansas City on Sept. 15, 2018.

The Hawks are currently ranked 13th in the latest AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll with a 10-3 record. Rockhurst ranks in the top 20 in NCAA Division II in hitting percentage (8th, .273), kills per set (15th, 14.0) and assists per set (12.9).

Karli Reichert ranks 33rd in the nation in kills (154), while Alyssa Woodman ranks 48th nationally in kills (147). Jadyn Makovicka ranks 35th in the nation in digs (213). Dani Prusha ranks 10th in the nation in assists (459). Justice Wingate ranks 24h in the nation in hitting percentage.

Head coach Tracy Rietzke ranks first among active NCAA Division II women's volleyball coaches in total victories (1,254) and seventh in all-time winning percentage (.817) among Division II coaches. He also ranks fourth in career victories for all three levels of NCAA women's volleyball head coaches.

McKendree (5-6) is coming off a 2-1 record at the Lindenwood Challenge in St. Charles, Mo. The Bearcats defeated Maryville, 3-0, and Lindenwood, 3-1, in non-conference matches and dropped a match to Flagler College, 3-1. Junior outside hitter Elle Russell ranks 10th in the GLVC with 3.43 kills per set. Junior setter Gracie Marr ranks seventh in the GLVC in assists per set.

The Hawks will host Southern Indiana (6-6) in a 3 p.m. match on Saturday. The Screaming Eagles have regional wins over Malone, Ursuline, Ohio Dominican, Kentucky Wesleyan and Kentucky State. Senior middle hitter Elexis Coleman ranks third in hitting percentage (.397) and ninth in blocks per set (0.98).
