The Rockhurst women's lacrosse team is through to the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament after defeating UC-Colorado Springs by a score of 17-9 Thursday evening in St. Charles, Missouri.
The Hawks were sharp at both ends, scoring seven of the game's first eight goals and taking a 9-2 lead into halftime. UCCS would get within four at 10-6 with just over 20 minutes remaining, but the Hawks, led by
Logan Derosia (seven goals) and
Hannah Miller (five goals, five assists), kept their foot on the gas and kept the Mountain Lions at arm's length.
Helen Krause found the back of the net three times, while
Audrey Ford added two goals, two ground balls and four draw controls.
Maddi Scheipeter collected a team-high five draw controls. All-RMAC first teamer
Hanna Meek earned three draw controls and caused two turnovers.
Coach
Molly McCourt's team has now won three straight games and 10 of their last 13. The Hawks (11-7) will meet top-seeded and third-ranked Regis (16-0) in the semifinals Friday at 4:00 p.m.
