No. 16 Hawks hold off Maryville for 15-11 victory

Kai Trujillo scored three goals in the fourth period to help 16th-ranked Rockhurst hold off Maryville for a 15-11 victory Saturday at Bourke Field.

Trujillo gave the Hawks a 12-8 lead with his first goal with 10:57 left to play. The junior attacker added his second goal three minutes later to increase the lead to 14-9. Trujillo capped the scoring with a man-up goal in the final minute.

Drake O'Neill tallied two of his three goals in the first period as the Hawks jumped out to a 8-3 lead in the first 15 minutes. The Saints held Rockhurst scoreless in the second period to cut their deficit to 8-7 at halftime.

Sam Lindahl led the Hawks with six points on one goal and five assists. Collin Fischer and Nick Schveninger each posted two goals and one assist. Oliver Byers added two goals.

Zach Bodeau and Sal Valdivia combined for 26-of-29 faceoff wins and 21 ground balls. Connor Bateman finished with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers. O'Neill had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Rockhurst outshot Maryville, 64-31. O'Neill led the Hawks with 11 shots. Sam Lindahl and Fischer each posted eight shots, while Nick Schveninger tallied seven shots. Patrick Fitzsimmons and Alex Pfeil combined for 11 saves.

The Hawks (10-2, 5-0 GLVC) host 15th-ranked Lindenwood on Saturday, April 13.
