The Rockhurst women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early four-goal lead in Saturday's game vs. Colorado-Colorado Springs and led wire-to-wire in a 13-10 victory.
The Mountain Lions closed the gap to one on five separate occasions at 6-5, 7-6, 9-8, 10-9 and 11-10, but Rockhurst showcased great composure in a tight game. UCCSÂ scored its 10th goal at the 19:12 mark of the second half to pull within one, but
Molly Dunham and the Hawks defense held the Lions scoreless the rest of the way to preserve the win.
Audrey Ford led the barrage offensively, finding the back of the net four times.
Hannah Miller scored two goals and assisted on three more. Three other Hawks tallied two goals --
Marianna Anderson,
Logan Derosia and
Maddi Scheipeter.
Hanna Meek collected a team-high five draw controls. Scheipeter and
Olivia Collier each caused three turnovers.
The Hawks improve to 10-7 with the win and clinch fourth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at 6-3. Coach
Molly McCourt's team qualifies for the RMAC tournament in St. Charles, Missouri next weekend.
